Chainsaw Dupont takes "Acoustic Highway" from Roadhouse to Coffeehouse
Blues University¨ invites listeners to take a road trip through blues and roots music history with "Chainsaw Dupont's Acoustic Highway", a 7-week series of free solo acoustic performances beginning Friday, September 10, by Chicago bluesman Chainsaw Dupont, appearing at an old Route-66 roadhouse and a classic Chicago coffeehouse. Dupont, who often opens his own shows performing in character as a country-bluesman alter-ego named "Whip Jr.", will expand the character for a full show featuirng acoustic, 12-string acoustic, and solo Telecaster guitar. The sets will include both blues standards, original compositions by Whip Jr. and Dupont, as well as folk and rock ' n roll songs. Each week, the first set will include a themed tribute segment featuring songs by some of Dupont's musical heroes.
There are two venues hostng the performances, which begin at 8 p.m. and end at midnight, with over-21 shows Fridays at Dell Rhea's Chicken Basket, an old roadhouse on a stretch of historic Route 66 in Willowbrook, and an all-ages encore performance each week on Sundays at Hotti Biscotti, a cozy European-style coffeehouse in Chicago's Logan Square neighborhood. There is no cover for either show, and each week will feature prize giveaways and special guest performers.

Happy Birthday, Chainsaw Dupont!
Chicago's David "Chainsaw" Dupont celebrates his 48th birthday today, on Friday the 13th, which was the actual day of his birth in Macomb, Mississippi, in 1956. To say he was Born Under a Bad Sign might be a bit of exaggeration, but here's wishing him many more years of good luck and good blues. He'll be celebrating his birthday with a special party at Chicago's southside juke joint, Lee's Unleaded Blues, 7401 S. South Chicago (773-493-3477), by hanging out for Johnny Drummer's regular Friday night set there. Stop by and give good wishes to one of the nicest bluesmen around, doors open 8ish, party starts at 9 p.m. There's no cover for the show, but a (moderately-priced) 2-drink minimum. You can reserve seats while they last by calling Lee's Unleaded. You can get help with directions to Lee's Unleaded by clicking in the link below:
