Chainsaw Dupont appearing at Buddy Guy's Legends

Chicago guitarist Chainsaw Dupont will appear at the club owned by one of his influences, Buddy Guy, on Saturday, February 4th, when he opens up for slide guitarist Sonny Rhodes. It should be a night of no-holds-barred rough-and-ready blues, with music starting around 9. Cover charge is $15.

Dupont has created a buzz on the Chicago music scene by releasing 2 well-received CDs and an EP of original material within just over 2 years, in a hybrid style with rhythmic elements of blues, hip-hop, and rock, which he calls "Delta Crush". The 2 CDs were tributes to the Chicago and Louisiana blues styles, and he has recently added more original songs to his live sets which will be recorded later this year for a Memphis-styled recording, a prolific rate of output in a Chicago blues market with live sets dominated by cover material of "classic" blues. The respected Chicago Reader blues critic David Whiteis has noted the dedication to traditions and restraint: "...his determination to favor craft over pyrotechnics is an encouraging sign...", while the UK's top blues magazine, Blues & Rhythm, noted his originality: "Dupont's not scared to experiment within the blues context...an interesting African American musician who is prepared to take chances with the blues." The response to his experimentation has not been universally positive, but it hasn't left many listeners ambivalent.

Buddy Guy's Legends features a full menu of Louisiana cookin' served up by chef Jason Girard, and it's the perfect compliment to hearing Chainsaw play tunes from his most recent CD, Bourbon St. Breakdown. There's even an early acoustic set from 5 to 8 with Diamond Jim Greene.

There is no dress code, no reservations, minimum age of 21. Parking is available by means of hotel and city lots, all located withing a block of the club, located at 754 S. Wabash in Chicago's south Loop. For concert information call 312-427-0333. Directions and a live audio track can be found at http://www.chainsawdupont.com/buddyguyslegends.
