Chainsaw Dupont Celebrates "blues street trilogy" at CD Release Parties
Chainsaw Dupont & the Blues Warriors will celebrate the release of their new CD, “Ghost Kings of Beale St.”, with a series of record-release parties throughout the Chicagoland area beginning on March 8th at FitzGerald’s in Berwyn, IL and ending March 16th at the House of Blues in downtown Chicago. The CD is the completion of a “blues street trilogy”, paying tribute to the Chicago, New Orleans, and Memphis blues styles. Recorded primarily in two nights at Memphis’ legendary Sun Studio in October, 2006, the record draws upon the rich rhythmic and harmonic traditions of Memphis soul, rockabilly, and blues, continuing lyrical themes begun with 2003’s “Lake St. Lullaby”. While that first CD focused lyrically on dreams and disappointment, and the second CD on addiction and obsession, this one is thematically concerned with redemption and renewal of faith. Each CD has increased the rhythmic and melodic complexity, and musically this CD, subtitled “Memphis Power”, adds horns and high-octane drumming, as well as layered vocal harmonies, in contrast to the stark blues-trio format of Lake St. Lullaby.
The release parties will feature songs from all three releases, with different band configurations, ranging from an acoustic duo to six-piece sets complete with the Chain Gang Horns. Each show will be sized for the specific venue, with the resulting sets offering a wide variety of arrangements and instrumentation, and a multi-faceted view of the band’s talents. The band will begin regional touring in support of the CD in April.
